This is the conversion information for the patchwork quilts in this month's issue that have patterns the same size as one of our templates. All of our templates are identified by number or letter. Numbers in the diagrams refer to a specific template. Follow the instructions in the magazine, substituting the following information where it applies.

Use Template #12 to measure and then cut strips. In all of the positions where rectangles are being sewn to each other, we prefer to use Template #13 and cut away the corners. We find it easier to sew 1/4" from the edge than to go diagonally across a square. It is also easy to use #13 to cut actual size pieces of D from 2 1/2" strips.

or use the Improved Snowball trick to eliminate seams. The top and bottom rows are a 2 1/2" x 4 1/2" rectangle with a #13 corner added using the Improved Snowball Trick,
and the center row is 2 1/2" x 6 1/2" with #13 corners added the same way on both sides . |

We normally recommend strip techniques for Nine Patch blocks, but when they are so scrappy, you may prefer squares.
The 6 1/2" My Favorite Squaring Up Ruler would come in very handy for truing up the stars and Nine Patch blocks, as well as in cutting the border.

We often find ourselves combining strip techniques and templates. It happens that Template #33 is just the right side to measure the strips (see The Best Way to Cut). After the pieced diamonds are completed, use diamond #30 to reduce the bulk at the tips and confirm that your diamond is an accurate 45 degrees.
