Stolen Quilts

Where' Elvis?

Where's ElvisCurious quilters want to know! This quilt is shown briefly at the beginning of Simply Quilts TV show episode #550, when Marti gives a short tour of the Houston Quilt Festival. It's one of the great quilts in Marti's book, Quilting For People Who Still Don't Have Time To Quilt. The instructions are in the book for making a quilt like it, but most or all of the Elvis fabrics shown in the quilt are no longer on the market.

"Where's Elvis?" WAS STOLEN while on exhibit at a European hobby show several years ago ~ now it can only be seen on that TV show and in Marti's book or slide shows. We think the quilt now resides somewhere in the southwestern United States, based on a conversation between Marti and a show visitor prior to the quilt's kidnapping.

Whenever that episode of Simply Quilts is aired, quilters call and ask if we have photos of the Elvis quilt on our site ~ and now we do! We appreciate the inquiries ~ it really is a fun quilt. We hope you enjoy seeing Where's Elvis.

We also ask that you contact us if you have any knowledge of the quilt's whereabouts.

Since its disappearance, Marti has been collecting Elvis fabrics as they've become available ~ and affordable! A chunk of one of these prints brought $250 at auction! Eventually, she will make a new Elvis quilt that will never be far out of sight.

Here's a page on Marcia Hohn's website with images of other quilts that have been stolen in recent years -- nice to see that one of them was found! -- http://quilterscache.com/MISSINGQUILTS.html

And there's on Soft Expressions website -- https://www.softexpressions.com/galleries/Stolenquilt.html

And, unfortunately, a lot of beautiful quilts are listed here -- http://lostquilt.com/category/status/missing/

And this beauty apparently has never been found since 2011, as it is still shown as lost on the AQS blog -- http://www.aqsblog.com/my-quilt-story-janet-atkins
