The Marti Michell Nine Patch Parade Sew-along, hosted by Angie Wilson, the Gnome Angel, begins October 2020. But you can join any time in February and still qualify for prizes -- or join any time, regardless of prizes! Each month will feature one of the Nine Patch quilts in the Starter Set. If you've ever participated in one of Angie's sew-alongs, you know it will be a lot of fun, with prize eligibility for finished projects -- and projects are easy to finish each month!

If you are participating in The Farmer's Wife 1930s Sampler Quilt hosted by Gnome Angel's blog in partnership with From Marti Michell, these are the tools Marti used to make her blocks for the quilt. Most of them are the same tools Marti used for the Jen Kingwell Long Time Gone Sew Along, which was also hosted by Marti and Gnome Angel, and info about making that quilt can still be found on those blogs.

You must have a copy of the book to use the template conversion charts. All the tools Marti used for both quilts are listed below in alphabetical order -- So Template Set A, B, etc., will be further down on the list. If you are interested in the 1920s Farmer's Wife template conversion charts, those are available as 10 PDFs through an email program that we run a few times each year. The next mailing begins on December 29, 2017,
and you can sign up for that email list using our newsletter signup button. The way it works out (because the 6-inch Farmer's Wife blocks are 3x3, 4x4, 5x5, etc), 101 of the 111 blocks in the Farmer's Wife book can be cut with several different sets of our templates. Marti actually cut all 111 blocks for her quilt with templates, but substituting 10 other blocks, like LeMoyne Star and a 5-patch basket, and she made a really cute little block with 3 rows of mini Tumblers.
The most frequently used sets are A, B, D, N and S. The most blocks you can make with one set is Set B, followed by Set A. Occasionally a piece or pieces from another set is used, like two pcs. in Set M come up once or twice, one from C. And if you own the 1"-2" Log Cabin Ruler, or the small Kaleido-Ruler, they're handy for a few other blocks. That kind of thing. Each time a new mailing runs, we
send a PDF conversion chart every 2 weeks. There are 10 PDFs; each one has about 10 blocks grouped by which of our template sets they can be cut with, and the first one is Set B. The 2nd uses Sets B and A, etc. The 10th PDF has 6 or 7 blocks to cut with Set S, and the PDFs in between use a mix of templates.
You do need to have a copy of the book to use the PDFs; we didn't duplicate the block diagrams but reference them by their name and number in the book. The best thing about making your blocks with templates is that Marti eliminates seams wherever possible, so you can get used to looking at a block design and thinking about ways to cut/sew more efficiently.
